火熔法合成+萃冷爆裂+硼砂熱處理

市面上的天然紅寶石充斥著各種仿品，不管是天然的紅色相似寶石或是人工合成的人造紅寶石！人造紅寶石常見的製程有三大類：火熔法、助熔劑法和水熱法。由於火熔法最易辨識但生產成本低，品質好又大顆，所以市佔率最高；水熱法成本最高所以相當少見；助熔劑法合成紅寶石成本稍高但其成品外觀與顯微特徵都很類似天然「緬甸產」紅寶石而在市場常用來仿製高價位天然紅寶石。本所近日收到一個物件，其顯微特徵猛一看類似助溶劑法合成紅寶石，經檢驗後發現是一種較新的仿製技術：淬冷爆裂-硼砂熱處理-火熔法合成紅寶石。顧名思義，這種寶石是採用成本最低，克拉數相對較大且品質也好的火熔法合成紅寶石，先經過加熱淬冷，使其產生大量裂紋，最後再加以硼砂熱處理使其裂隙癒合，形成紗狀內含物，有如天然紅寶的指紋狀特徵。近來市場上有廠商以這種特殊的人造紅寶石仿品仿製天然緬甸紅寶石或甚至仿製「助溶劑法」合成紅寶石販售。假的仿真的不奇怪，假的仿假的才稀奇，下次看到這類的物件，記得要送驗喔！不然當作緬甸紅寶買入就損失大囉！

There are many kinds of ruby simulants in the market, including natural or synthetic gemstones. Synthetic ruby is mainly made by three method: flame-fusion, flux and hydrothermal process. Flame-fusion synthetic ruby is a low-cost and high-quality simulants; hydrothermal ruby is too expensive that it is rarely seen in the market; flux ruby is used to “imitate” natural ruby of high quality despite of high cost because the appearance and inclusion evidences of flux ruby is similar to natural ruby from Myanmar. Recently, TULAB received a ruby that is identified as new type of flame-fusion ruby which is quenched, crackled and heated with borax. After the treatment, there will be lots of cracks and fissures inside the synthetic ruby; however borax will help to heal fissures. Those healed fissures looks like natural fingerprint in ruby from Myanmar. The most interesting is that the new type of synthetic ruby is sold as natural ruby or even as flux ruby in the market.
