寶石是否經熱處理？是個很基本的寶石學問題，但卻未必有標準答案。實務上，鑑定師在顯微鏡下判斷熱處理的依據是內含物特徵，所以首要前提寶石不能是「鏡下無瑕」，再者要考慮內含物特徵的種類，與加熱前後可能的變化。實際上，有些內含物種類可歸類具有「無熱處理之診斷性」，反之有一部份內含物可歸類具有「熱處理診斷性」。然而有很大部分的內含物卻是介於兩者之間，無診斷性或低診斷性，甚至有時會成為誤導特徵。不要再相信網路上沒有根據的說法了，與其花錢買經驗，不如買一本林所長所著的「實用寶石學」，仔細讀個兩三遍，保你買寶石不受騙。
"Whether a stone is heated?" is a basic question on gemology; however there may not be standard answers. Pratically, gemologists give their judgement according to inclusion evidence; therefore, the stone must be "included" under microscope and the variation of inclusions under heating is the answer to the question. As a matter of fact, inclusions can be classified to 4 type: 1-diagnostic of no heating 2-diagnostic of heating 3-indicative of heating 4-not indicative of heating. Sometimes, type3 or type4 inclusion may not give the right answer but mislead the jugement of gemologisrs instead.
