有一位喜愛收藏和闐玉的客戶拿著一串白度很高,目視類似俄料白玉的珠串前來鑑定,其玉質細膩顏色脂白。台灣聯合三位鑑定師隨即以拉曼光譜確認其材質,結果令人意外,又是和闐玉界的背影殺手,只是這次是相對罕見的「透輝石」珠串。透輝石為鈣鎂矽酸鹽[CaMg(SiO3)2],軟玉成分透閃石為含水的鈣鎂矽酸鹽[Ca2Mg5Si8O22(OH)2],不僅成分相似,某些產地的軟玉中,透輝石也確實為共生礦物之一。軟玉有許多共生礦物,包括有蛇紋石、水鎂石、方解石、透輝石與矽灰石等,當軟玉中有過量的共生礦物時,其寶石學意義上就不再稱為「軟玉」,消費者不可不知,業者不可不防啊!想瞭解更多軟玉的仿品與知識嗎?請參閱實用寶石學一書,軟玉與地方玉石章節。

A collector of nephrite jade came to TULAB with a string of white beads which looks similar to white nephrite jade. TULAB gemologists analyze its mineral phase with raman spectrum and find that the beads are diopside rather than nephrite jade. There are many kinds of simulants for nephrite jade in the market; however diopside simulant is relatively rare. There are some paragenetic minerals in nephrite-jade deposits, such as antigorite, brucite, calcite, diopside or wollastonite. When the jade contains excessive paragenetic minerals, it can no more be named as nephrite jade gemologically.
